Are you having performance issues when viewing and rendering your SketchUp projects? It could be that you are using models with too high a resolution for the view you have created or that you are using high polygon count models.
Goldilocks is a tool for identifying where you have too much or too little Resolution in your Textures for a given viewpoint. Goldilocks can also show you parts of your model that have too much detail compared to the rest of the model.
"For a given viewpoint" - this part is important because if you're far away from a textured surface you need less detail than when you're really close up. Having too much resolution just increases file size with NO INCREASE ON QUALITY for any rendering - including raytracers. It is simply a waste of storage.
In a similar way, having a 100,000 faces used to define a cupboard fixing bracket is unlikely to add to your render - and will just increase file size and slow down rendering.
Select Extensions->Goldilocks->Geometry to generate a report showing, for the current SketchUp viewpoint, the geometry detail *per unit volume*. What this does is to highlight when you have some tiny elements that have far too high detail compared to the rest of your model. Its easy to drop something into your creation from the Warehouse that includes far more detail than you need - bloats your SketchUp file size and slows you down.
Click on the lefthand side *name*, and the SketchUp camera will point at the item and Select it. Clicking again, de-selects it. Handy for seeking out problem geometry.
Select Extensions->Goldilocks->Texture to generate a report showing, for a the current SketchUp viewpoint, texture detail. This helps find textures that are far larger than they need to be and are just bloating your file size.
